New budget carrier from Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines has just launched its own affordable airline, called Scott, which will fly to destinations in Australasia and China, in direct competition with the already-established AirAsia. The flights are scheduled to begin in mid-2012, with bookings available starting early next year.

Scoot plans to initially focus on destinations that are five to 10 hours from its base at Singapore’s Changi International Airport. The company then expects to expand flights to India, Europe and other markets, possibly including Africa and the Middle East.
