Most popular spring break destinations

More than 562,000 foreign tourists visited Mexico’s sun and beach destinations over the recent Spring Break period, according to Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism. This figure includes nearly 77,000 spring breakers which marks a 7.2 percent increase in spring breakers, year over year.


Spring break in Cancun – go wild and party!

The most visited destinations were Cancun and the Riviera Maya which attracted more than 50,000 spring breakers, an increase of 8.4 percent. Puerto Vallarta and Nueva Vallarta, welcomed 15,503 tourists, an increase of 7.3 percent.

Book ahead for the end of the world

If the world does end December next year, millions of people are planning a trip to Mexico, to be closer to the former Mayan empire that predicted everything.  More than 52 million people are expected to visit the Quintana Roo (where Cancun is), Yucatan, Chiapas, Tabasco and Campeche regions. In an average year the whole of Mexico only gets 22 million tourists.

Mayan Long Count calendar, which started in 3114 BC and marks time in roughly 394-year periods known as Baktuns, with the 13th Baktun ending on December 21, 2012, the same date a stone tablet, discovered at the archaeological site of Tortuguero in Tabasco, describes the return of a Mayan god.

Hurricane Rina to hit Cancun

Weather forecasters have warned that Hurricane Rina could become a ‘major’ storm by Wednesday, before slamming into the popular Mexican resort of Cancun. It has already brushed Nicaragua and Honduras, where dozens of people have been reported killed by flooding and mudslides.
